Reclaimed pitch pine (pino melis viejo) is highly valued in historic wood floors for its prominent grain, dense natural resin content, warm amber tone, and high proportion of heartwood when sourced from carefully selected structural demolition beams. In Spain, “pino melis” serves as a trade designation within the Southern Yellow Pine botanical group. We supply and install selected reclaimed and new pitch pine for solid hardwood flooring, glued parquet, and compatible historic repairs. We handle classic formats such as 22 mm solid planks and 11 mm parquet where substrate depth permits, as well as herringbone, perimeter borders, reveals, diamonds, fine wood inlays, and exact reproductions of original historic floors.

Where sufficient usable thickness and structural stability remain, reclaimed pitch pine floors can be conserved through selective piece replacement, fine grain inlays, joist re-anchoring, substrate consolidation, controlled dustless sanding, and resin-compatible finishes. Prior to varnishing or oiling, we thoroughly assess mechanical fastening, moisture levels, structural movement, historical insect activity, and subfloor sound. Structural and anchoring deficiencies are resolved first; fine surface repairs, dustless sanding, and durable protective coats follow.
