Historic Marquetry & 19th-Century Parquet Restoration – Fernán Núñez Palace
Fernán Núñez Palace · Santa Isabel 44 (Central Madrid) · 19th-century noble marquetry salons and historic solid hardwood.
Work performed: Conservation and specialized refurbishment of noble wood floors across the state reception rooms of Fernán Núñez Palace in Madrid. This neoclassical 19th-century landmark currently houses the Spanish Railway Foundation.
Flooring characteristics: The salons combine European oak, Spanish walnut, and Iberian chestnut. The composition features intricate perimeter borders with artistic marquetry and geometric motifs crafted from contrasting noble timbers.
Technical intervention & finish: Loose marquetry elements were hand-stabilized and re-adhered using reversible conservation adhesives. Dustless fine sanding with cyclonic extraction was performed with zero unnecessary loss of usable noble wood. Wood-flour binder resin sealed all joints. For protection, three coats of high-traffic 2K waterborne polyurethane in an ultramatt finish were applied, preserving authentic historic patina.
